International Baccalaureate Programme

The International Baccalaureate®, which started in Geneva in 1968, has in the last 50 years become the premier program of instruction offered in 5000 schools around the world.

Seoul Foreign School has had a longstanding relationship with the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). In 1980 SFS was one of the first 200 schools worldwide authorized to offer the IB programmes of instruction.

The IBO’s mission highlights a set of ideals that can inspire, motivate and focus the work of schools and teachers, uniting them in a common purpose.

Primary Years Programme (PYP)

Ages 3 to 11 years old

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) at Seoul Foreign School combines the best research and practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant, challenging, engaging, and significant educational framework for all children.

The PYP is an international, transdisciplinary program designed to foster the development of the whole child by encompassing students’ social, physical, emotional, and cultural needs in addition to their academic welfare. In the PYP, students develop an understanding of important concepts, acquire essential skills and knowledge, develop particular attitudes, and learn to take socially responsible action. The PYP encompasses learning not just in the classroom but also other means of learning within the whole community.

Middle Years Programme (MYP)

Ages 11 to 16 years old

The IB Middle Years Program (MYP) is designed for students aged 11 to 16 in middle school and the first two years of high school. It provides a framework of learning that encourages students to become creative, critical, and reflective thinkers.

The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding, and global engagement.

These are essential qualities for young people who are becoming global leaders. It builds upon the knowledge, skills, and attitudes developed in the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) and prepares students to meet the academic challenges of the IB Diploma Program (DP).

Diploma Programme (DP)

Ages 16 to 19 years old

The two year Diploma programme in years 11 and 12 is challenging, rigorous, and rewarding for all students enrolled.

To fulfill the requirements for an IB Diploma, the student must study seven subjects (including TOK) during the 11th and 12th grades. Students can select one subject being offered from several different areas of studies ranging from languages, to maths, sciences, arts, and more.
