As a British School we offer the English National Curriculum through the frameworks of the IEYC (International Early Years Curriculum), IPC (International Primary Curriculum) and IMYC (International Middle Years Curriculum) because we believe it gives us the learning rigour to inspire excellence and the international, society and personal perspectives to build character in all aspects of school life. Alongside these frameworks we deliver learning in Maths and Literacy based on the English National Curriculum directly. These curriculums and the teaching philosophy behind them are what makes our school ‘British.’
Our emphasis is on creating a learning environment built on Thinking, Relevance and Collaboration in order to prepare learners for the 4th Industrial Revolution and beyond. Our expectations of the students are high and they perform well in standardised assessments, comparing well with the best international schools in the world. Whilst academics are important to all of our families, we recognise the need for balance and our sports, art, music, and drama facilities rank among the best in Asia. Our extracurricular programmes offer a wide range of challenge and opportunity.
Welcome to the
Seoul Foreign British School!
Seoul Foreign British School, founded in 1981, has an established reputation for quality teaching and learning, its sense of community and family and its diverse student population. At its heart is a curriculum commonly used in international schools around the world, the English National Curriculum (ENC) delivered through the frameworks of the IEYC (International Early Years Curriculum), IPC (International Primary Curriculum) and IMYC (International Middle Years Curriculum).
Using these frameworks, we craft circumstances for learners from 3 to 14 years of age to develop thinking through collaboration to see the relevance of the curriculum to their lives today and tomorrow. Using research into how children learn, our approaches to teaching and learning:
- inspire excellence
- nurture key values
- prepare each student for life as a global citizen in a complex world
Children in our school learn to value others and the world around them through six core values (communication, collaboration, courage, respect, responsibility, reflection) as they develop an international mindset and progress on their own unique learning journey in a safe learning environment. These values are embedded in all aspects of school life and children are able to see how they can develop in these from Foundation through to Year 9.
“Great schools are built on two things: a learning focused curriculum and an embedded culture for thinking.”
Developing Learners for Life
SFBS students are required to take responsibility. They lead and initiate learning and related activities, not only for themselves but also for their fellow students and the local community. Our students aspire to the best outcomes for each other.
