Learning an additional language is a developmental process. Student progress depends on many different factors. A partnership between school and home is important for the success of our English language learners.

At home, maintaining and continuing to develop the first language is critical for growth in English over the long term. At school, ELL and classroom teachers work as a team to meet each student’s needs. The diverse culture and language backgrounds of ELL students enrich our school community and broaden world views.

Our School Psychologist applies expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. They partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community. By providing direct support and interventions to students, consulting with teachers, families, and other school-employed mental health professionals (i.e., school counselors), the School Psychologist improves support strategies, and collaborates with community providers to coordinate needed services.

The speech-language pathologist (SLP) provides individual and group therapy sessions, preschool through high school, in order to improve students' communication skills. Following assessment in the area(s) of concern (e.g., language processing, expressive language, social language/social thinking, articulation, fluency/stuttering), a treatment plan is developed. The SLP partners with parents and teachers in order to generalize targeted skills across settings to improve access to the curriculum.
