Media Centers

Seoul Foreign School has a number of libraries and media centers. The Elementary and lower division of the British School each contain a separate self contained library, while the Middle and High School, as well as the Key Stage 3 of the British School are served by the the Secondary Media Center. Each of our libraries and media centers are staffed by media specialists to assist students and teachers.

In addition to over 80,000 books and magazines, SFS maintains a wealth of online subscription database materials (journals, professional magazines, newspapers, academic resources, etc.) which offer excellent research resources for students. All of our resource lists are fully automated to allow for quick identification of materials allowing for easy sign-out/return of resources by all of our community members.

Information Technology

Seoul Foreign School is committed and strives to provide appropriate technology resources, which are centered in the core curriculum, and to assist in student learning. These resources also help streamline the daily operations of the administrative tasks, necessary for the school to function. This commitment, to appropriate technology, is evident in the reviewed, updated, and adopted Information Technology plan. This IT plan is the roadmap that Seoul Foreign School follows, as it implements and integrates technology resources.

Network and Internet infrastructure:

  • Entire SFS campus is Ethernet switch based topology, with 1Gb fiber optics between all buildings and servers, and 100Mb copper lines to every classroom
  • Wireless network infrastructure covering 75% of campus (as of November 2006), utilizing A/B/G wireless standards (54Mb capable)
  • Remote access (worldwide accessible) to all applications and data files via Citrix Presentation Server platform and 45Mb campus internet connection.
  • Online E-Learning tools are provided, which include, but not limited to:  Edline (information Portal system), Moodle (SFS E-Learning environment), online subscription resources (Atomic Learning, EBSCO, BrainPop, Infotrac, United Streaming, Net Trekker, Newsbank, Sirs Discoverer, Knowledge Source, Worldbook, and Turnitin.com).

Software:

  • All SFS owned computers utilize the Windows XP Professional operating system
  • All drop in lab computers utilize terminal based technology for access
  • Software applications used by SFS, but no limited to:  MS Office 2003 suite, MS FrontPage, Inspiration, Kidspiration, Adobe Elements, Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Sibelius, and GradeQuick.
