The drama program produces 5 large-scale, multi-performance productions during the year as the main season offering to the SFS community and public. Over 10 additional medium- to small-scale productions are also produced, involving students from all four schools and all ages. Students have the opportunity to perform as actors, builders, technicians, and stage crew. Supporting these productions are the courses that lay the foundation for these skills. Though acting techniques and basic drama theory are covered in the younger years, formal drama coursework begins in Middle school grade 6/British school year 7. Students learn not only the history and process of theater but also the practical skills of characterization, blocking, set design and directing as they make their way up through the IB Theatre Arts course offered through the IB Diploma Program for high school students. At the end of high school, students are well prepared to pursue further studies in theatre at two-year and four-year institutions of higher learning should they choose.
