Discovery Week

During the last week of May each year (after the IB exams), the entire High School breaks from the regular schedule and participate in a week long experience known as ‘Discovery Week’. When former SFS High School students are asked to think of a memorable experience that they had in High School, Discovery Week is the first thing that comes to mind.

Discovery Week provides a balance between cultural enrichment, the arts, adventure sports, lifetime skills, travel and service for others. Courses are designed to offer students educational opportunities that are most certainly out of the ordinary. All courses are faculty-sponsored and designed each year. All high students participate in Discovery Week.

Discovery Week is a self-financing activity with course costs including the necessary organization and supervision of the students by High School faculty members. All courses are arranged by faculty members with attention to the educational and personal growth gains that can be made during the activity and the most reasonable costs to parents.

There are an incredible amount of courses offered during Discovery Week. While many take place locally, some involve a significant amount of travel all over the world. Students are placed in courses that they (with parent approval) have selected as their first, second or third choice. In recent years, 100% of students were able to receive their first, second or third choice.
