Fun and Enriching Events
The Elementary School Library hosts several events throughout the school year.
Summer Reading Program: We kick off with the Summer Reading Program as returning students at SFS, wherever their travels might take them, are encouraged to read throughout their long break. Students submit the reading logs they have worked on over the summer and we celebrate their reading achievement together.
Fall Book Fair: During parent-teacher conference week in November the library arranges a Book Fair. An assortment of books and educational games are sold at the library during this week and children and parents are invited to purchase them. The funds raised at this time are used to further host events that will enrich students’ minds in regards to literature.
Author/Illustrator Visitation: These past years we have invited celebrated figures in children’s literature to come and share their work and inspiration with the students. Linda Sue Park, Diane Stanley, Anne Sibley O’Brian and Chris Soentpiet are some of the writers and illustrators that have visited and enchanted SFS students at the library.

The library has also invited Poetry Alive! – a renown poetry performance group based in the United States - and other special storytellers to expose students to various inspiring ways in approaching literature.
Library Celebration Week: Near the end of the school year, in April, we hold a Library Celebration Week. All grade levels in the elementary school participate in activities such as the Dewey Decimal Bee, the Library Brainbowl and the Book/Author Quiz. During the week two students from each class are awarded the Best Library User Award as well. It is a time of fun learning and exciting participation for the kids.
Through these many events the library hopes to enhance the love for reading and literature in the growing minds of young students all year long.
