Students With Learning Differences
While some support services are available for students with mild learning differences, Seoul Foreign School does not offer the full continuum of special education programs available at most public schools in the United States. Admission is contingent upon a match between the student’s needs and the level of services available. For that reason, the admission of any special needs student is determined on a case-by-case basis using multiple sources of information such as school records, psychological evaluations and interviews with students, parents and teachers. Parents are expected to provide existing psychological/educational test documentation.
There are students that SFS is unable to serve. Programs are not in place for children with significantly limited intellectual ability, severe physical handicaps or pronounced social, emotional or behavioral difficulties. Students must be able to demonstrate the ability to function within a regular classroom given the limited available support services.
All students requiring special learning support are admitted on a probationary basis contingent on the school being able to continue to meet the student’s learning needs. The progress of students in support programs will be monitored annually. It is possible a student may not be recommended for promotion to the next grade if it is felt his or her learning needs cannot be met by the support services that are available.
